On Sunday evening, Israeli Minister of Transportation Merav Michaeli visited the Israeli community in Berlin. The visit was hosted by Zusammen Berlin, a partner of Mosaic United’s Yisraelim initiative. Michaeli was joined by her partner and comedian, Lior Schlein.
The minister’s Berlin visit included a tour as well as a sit down with two dozen members of the local community made up of Israelis who have relocated to the German capital.
Since 2017, Zusammen Berlin has been offering Shabbat and holiday meals, Hebrew classes for children, and Israeli cultural events for more than 4,000 Israelis annually. Mosaic United’s Yisraelim supports Zusammen as part of its effort to seed and strengthen organic communities of Israelis abroad, connecting them with resources, educational experiences, and their broader local Jewish communities.
Elad Mayer, Director of Yisraelim, stated, “Minister Michaeli and Schlein’s visit is a visible symbol of the importance of growing the connection between Israelis abroad and Israel, and we’re glad these key representatives of Israeli government and culture could visit, share, and learn.”
Zusammen Director Tehila Darmon added, “Today, the Israeli government relates to Israelis abroad as a vital part of global Jewry, and we thank Minister Michaeli for expressing her personal commitment to the issue.”
